carlagoldberg - GOING ORGANIC series

The play of light seen behind a transparent surface is a theme that runs through all of my work. My imagery centers around the Hudson River landscape and alludes to evolution as if they were pieces of archeology.

THE POWER OF ONE is about how much one bee contributes to our everyday lives. Think about the fact that one bee can pollinate up to 18,ooo flowers in one day. Our agricultural industry cannot survive without the bee and that threatens our food production and threatens human life. Pesticides do not know the difference between bugs that eat plants and bees who help pollinate. It kills all insects, good and bad.

This painting is about the last tree hanging on in a denuded clearcut forest. Trees are at the mercy of their environment and subjected to associated hazards. Pathogens like a multitude of fungi as well as Non-living agents can damage trees Extremes in temperature and water supply are two common causes of abiotic disease process but chemicals in soil and water, transplant shock and mechanical injury also can harm trees.

ARTISTS STATEMENT:This series is about ending indiscriminate use of pesticides and going organic.

My imagery centers around the Hudson River landscape and alludes to evolution as if they were pieces of archeology.
My paintings evolve in multiple layers using bits of recycled materials like found bugs, mis-mixed latex house paint, candy boxes and egg cartons glued into cut canvas with interference and oil paints, resin, crackle varnish and colored wax. Each layer brings you closer to the past. Textures, cracks and other patinas are an important facet of my work and give the pieces a sort of history or story for the viewer to create. The boxes are meant to make you feel as if you are digging through time.

While these paintings are distinctly Hudson River in their imagery, the story is a universal one. Life, communities, industry instinctively begin along a waters edge. These images speak to the human interaction with our surroundings and man made climatic changes.
