SOUNDINGS series
SOUNDINGS: is the newest series of Riverscapes playing with the
idea of sonic underwater imaging of topography, trade winds, seasonal
flows and benthic mapping of the Hudson River bottom. Think of
visualizing the unseen river bottom as a landscape. Most of the titles
for these paintings come from the weather and depth measurements
journal written by Robert Juet who sailed on the ship The Half Moon in
1609 with Henry Hudson during its historic explorations of Americas
First River. We are about to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the
exploration of the Hudson River. My hope is that these works will help
get the public thinking about the Hudson as something living and
continue to help in it's cleanup. The beauty of the river is not just
on the surface. There is a whole world to explore beneath the surface
too.
